Traumatic Stress - PTSD

Trauma is complex and can impact almost every area of your life. Unfortunately, trying to “forget about it” doesn’t help. Together, we’ll work through the fear, anger and often confusing reactions, so you don’t have to face them alone.

My Areas of Expertise Include: Childhood Abuse, Sexual Assault, Traumatic Loss, Religious Trauma, Life Threatening Situations (House Fire, Car Accident, etc.), Vicarious Trauma (First Responders).

MY APPROACH:

I provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR uses your brain’s natural power to heal and move past traumatic experiences.

EMDR helps you work through traumatic memories. EMDR works by bridging both sides of your brain through eye movements, headphone clicks, or other techniques. The goal is to both reprocess and desensitize past experiences. EMDR allows the brain to access and process the traumatic memories in a way that reduces its intensity and negative impact. Meaning you can recall the event without experiencing the intense emotional distress and negative beliefs associated with it.

EMDR has been a life-changer for those who have felt “stuck” in therapy and have struggled to reap benefits from more cognitive approaches.

   Grief and Loss

I am dedicated to supporting clients as they manage and live with feelings of grief and loss. I understand how challenging it can be to manage your emotions during this period, especially when grief is so seldom talked about.

My Areas of Expertise Include: Loss of a Loved One or Pet, Traumatic or Sudden Loss, Care Giving Stress (Anticipatory Loss), Chronic Pain / Illness (Loss of Health or Independence), Infidelity, Loss of a Relationship or Divorce, Loss of Job or Career.

MY APPROACH:

This is a space where you don’t have to explain why it’s hard. You’re heard here and provided compassion. With specialized training in all forms of grief and loss, I offer gentle support and encouragement as you navigate this difficult time. Using evidence-based methods, of person-centered narrative therapy along with EMDR, we’ll work together to reduce feelings of guilt, fear and anger that may be exacerbating feelings of sadness about the loss. My goal is to help you traverse these experiences with empathy and confidence, creating tools that work best for you.

 Anxiety, Social Anxiety & OCD

When anxiety takes over, it often causes you to want to avoid, ruminate or try to “stop” the feelings which unfortunately can make anxiety worse, not better. It can feel like you’re no longer in control, with your fears taking over your reactions. Whether you're dealing with persistent worry or obsessive thoughts, my goal is to help you cope and feel more centered.

My Areas of Expertise Include: Excessive Anxiety and Worry, Negative or Intrusive Thoughts, Social Anxiety and Avoidance, Panic Attacks, Obsessions and Compulsions, Low Self-Confidence and Stress due to Life Transitions.

MY APPROACH -

I provide individual counseling that utilizes a combination of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist in improving distress tolerance and emotional regulation and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to assist in learning to lean into and face fear instead of trying to avoid or stop feelings of fear and worry. I also utilize Exposure and Response Therapy (ERP) which is an evidenced based practice to improve and manage symptoms of OCD and Panic Disorder.
